Lugged refers to a type of valve connection, commonly used with butterfly valves, where the valve body has threaded lugs (metal projections) positioned around the valve’s outer edge. These lugs align with the bolt holes on the pipe flanges, allowing bolts to be screwed into the valve from each side.
How Does It Work?
In a lugged valve setup, the valve is placed between two pipe flanges. Bolts are inserted through one flange, into the threaded lugs on the valve body, and separately through the other flange. This allows each side of the piping to be bolted independently. This means one side of the piping can be removed without disturbing the other, making it possible to isolate sections of the pipeline.
