Wafer refers to a slim, compact valve design—commonly used for butterfly valves—that fits between two pipe flanges without extending beyond them. The valve is held in place by bolts that run through the flanges and around the valve body, not through it.
How Does It Work?
The wafer-style valve is positioned between two flanged pipe ends. Long bolts pass through the flange holes on both sides, compressing the flanges and clamping the valve in place. The valve does not have its own bolt holes; instead, it relies on the flange bolts to hold it securely. A gasket is placed on either side of the valve to form a seal and prevent leaks.
