Threaded refers to a type of valve connection where the ends of the valve have internal (female) or external (male) threads, allowing them to be screwed directly onto matching threaded pipes or fittings. It’s one of the oldest and most commonly used connection methods, especially for smaller diameter pipelines.
How Does It Work?
In a threaded valve connection, the valve and pipe have compatible threads—typically BSP (British Standard Pipe) or NPT (National Pipe Thread). The valve is screwed into place by rotating it onto the pipe or fitting. A thread sealant such as PTFE tape or thread paste is usually applied to the threads to ensure a tight, leak-free connection. The seal is achieved through both the mechanical fit of the threads and the sealing compound.
